Are you overdue a smear?

This post is intended for the patients who received a text message from the Practice.

We cannot see a recent cervical screening test on your record

Our records do not show a recent cervical screening (smear) test for you.
This might be because:

  • you had a test done in another clinic that did not reach your record here
  • you no longer have a cervix (for example after a hysterectomy), so you may not need screening
  • you have never had a cervical screening test

Cervical screening is a free test that looks for early changes that could lead to cervical cancer in the future. It is offered to women and anyone with a cervix, usually from age 25 to 65, through the national CervicalCheck programme.

Check if you are due a test

You can check if you are on the CervicalCheck register and when your next test is due by visiting the CervicalCheck website:

If the website shows that you are not due, you do not need to do anything now.

If it shows that you are due, or you decide you would like to have a test, you can book a free cervical screening test.

How to book a free cervical screening test

If your test is due, you can book a free cervical screening test with any GP or clinic that is registered with CervicalCheck. For continuity of care we would advice to book with us as your usual GP practice.

We would encourage you to book on-line here (click). Alternatively, you can call the reception 041 982 8039.
